SUMMARY:Resilience Against Racism – understanding racism experienced by international students.
DESCRIPTION:Ms Wesa Chau1, Ms Christine Yeung\n1Resilience Against Racism, Melbourne, Australia\nIn 2020, racism against people of Asian heritage, including international students, have increase due to the pandemic. In response to that, Resilience Against Racism was created to provide workshops to provide support to international students and other people of Asian heritage. ISANA was a key supporter of the workshops when it was first initiated and funded by Study Melbourne and the Scanlon Foundation. This presentation will present some of the data that was captured from the registration, the workshops and what they are, and the conversations that happened in these workshops. The workshops will enable staff to better understand the mental wellbeing of international students when they experienced or witnessed racism, and provide some strategies on how to support international students during this period.\n\nBiography:\nMs Wesa Chau is Co-founder of Resilience Against Racism and CEO of Cultural Intelligence, a research, training and consulting firm helping organisations harness the power of cultural diversity.  She is currently serving as an advisory board member of the National Foundation of Australia-China Relations, member of the Victorian Anti-Racism Taskforce and board member of Holmesglen Tafe Foundation. She was recognised through the Victorian International Education Internationalisation Award in 2016 for work supporting international students spanning over two decades.\n
