SUMMARY:Building a peer to peer digital community for offshore international students
DESCRIPTION:Mrs Kerry Valentine1, Mr Ben Hallett2\n1Bond University, Robina, Australia, 2Vygo, Brisbane, Australia\nPost COVID-19, universities must offer an extended range of mixed-mode delivery to cater to every student’s needs, including support and peer mentoring. Peer-support programs are well established as key enablers of student success and engagement; however, most programs are based on campus, with online offerings typically reserved for students who chose to study fully online.\nBond University, in partnership with Vygo, created connectivity for a cohort of offshore international students using a peer mentoring app. This collaboration enabled students to interact in a group setting with the ability to foster individual relationships on the back of those events, in a safe and pre-qualified environment. This workshop will walk participants through the stages undertaken at Bond University to redress the challenge created when international students were confined to emergency remote teaching and support. We will share our stages of discovery and implementation to allow workshop participants an opportunity to model similar examples within their institutions.\n\nBiography:\nAs Director of Student Success and Wellbeing at Bond University, Kerry leads a suite of diverse and innovative services to deliver an exceptional student experience with a focus on retention, employability, and personalised support for students’ success.\nKerry has a wide and varied depth of tertiary and higher education experience which she has gained while working in Australia, Asia and North America.  Prior to her tenure at Bond University, Kerry was the Head of Student Experience for Torrens University, based in Sydney.  Kerry was responsible for leading a large team to support students to succeed across every stage of the student lifecycle.  Whilst living in Perth, Kerry was the Manager, Career Development Office at Curtin University and she also spent some time with Study Group Australia where she held the roles of Program Development Manager, Dean of the University of Western Australia Foundation Program, and Director of Studies.\n
