SUMMARY:Are we adequately supporting our international students?
DESCRIPTION:The foundation of ISANAs existence is to support the needs of international students. Education providers and other stakeholders provide a range of support services and promote the importance of the international student experience. Are they genuinely interested in providing the best possible support, or just providing a basic level of support to meet their compliance obligations outlined in Standard 6 of the National Code.\nDuring this session, we will find out what students really think, gain an understanding of a regulators perspective when determining if an education provider is meeting their obligations and consider if we should strengthen the regulatory framework to ensure all international students receive the support they need and deserve.\n Helen Kronberger\nSENIOR ADVISER INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION – AUSTRADE\nHelen Kronberger is Senior Adviser International Education at Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade).\nShe worked previously as Director Victorian Tafe International at the Victorian Tafe Association, as Director and Consultant at IEC International Education Consultancy, and held roles at University of Melbourne and Edith Cowan University.\n \nBrett Blacker\nCHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF ENGLISH AUSTRALIA\nBrett Blacker is the Chief Executive Officer of English Australia, the National Peak Body for the English Language Teaching sector. He has previously held a range of Director level roles at Murdoch University, and the University of Newcastle.\nBrett has experience with the Insurance and Health sectors as General Manager: Health, OSHC Worldcare a portfolio under Allianz Worldwide Partners. He was a long-standing Board member and past President of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).\nHe has served on the Board of Perth Education City (PEC) and as part of the executive group of Australian Universities International Directors Forum (AUIDF).\nBrett is a member of StudyNSW International Education Advisory Board, the South Australian International Education Ministerial Advisory Council, and is a former Expert Member of the Federal Council for International Education.\nChris Beard\nISANA NZ Executive Officer\nChris has worked in international education for more than twenty five years. He has experience teaching in the secondary, tertiary and PTE sectors and leading student support practice on two university-based foundation studies programmes. Chris helped to develop New Zealand’s first postgraduate course in International Education (EDUC504) which is offered by Victoria University of Wellington’s Masters of Education programme. He oversees ISANA NZ’s professionalisation programme which is presently supported and funded by the MOE’s International Student Wellbeing Strategy. Chris liaises with government officials, allied peak-bodies and education leaders on ISANA NZ’s behalf.\nFouli Christmann\nSenior Assessment Manager ESOS/CRICOS Team, TEQSA\nFouli Christmann is a Senior Assessment Manager in the ESOS/CRICOS Team at the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency.  She has an extensive background in government delivery of education and workforce programs, conducting compliance audits and quality reviews.  Fouli previously worked in the English language sector and she has a strong interest in ELICOS Programs and course design.\n
